The Keystone States sports betting market may be quite young, but it is growing at an awe-inspiring rate. Things are about to get even better as the NFL season kicks off. This is because the sports betting sector is about to go through a major shakeup thanks to the arrival of yet another service provider.

Renowned gambling operator Penn National Gaming on Monday announced that it will be launching a new sports betting app in the state. The new Barstool Sportsbook mobile app will arrive on September 15 for a three-day testing period that will come to an end on September 17.

This Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB) will be overseeing the testing phase of the app. Throughout that period, the regulator will be looking into all aspects of the gambling operation before finally giving the necessary regulatory approval. When that finally comes to pass, the sports betting app will have the green light to launch full operations on September 18.

Other things that will undergo testing during the soft-launch phase will be the features as well as the functionality of the Barstool Sportsbook app. All necessary refinements will be complete when the app becomes available to the wider sports betting audience in the Keystone State.

“This is an important milestone in our Company’s continued evolution to be the leading omnichannel provider of retail and online gaming, live racing and sports betting entertainment, and we couldn’t be more excited to get underway.”

Jay Snowden, President, and CEO of Penn National.

For Pennsylvanians, this is a very exciting development not just because of the stellar reputation of the sports betting brand but also because it represents another fresh and competitive option in the growing market.

Plans for the Other States

The Pennsylvania launch is only one of many other launches that the company has planned for several other states across the United States. Penn National, the operator behind the app, already has Michigan and New Jersey in its sights. With all of the experience and the partners that the company has, it is more than capable of capturing an “outsized share of the high growth US sports betting and online casino markets and achieve market-leading profitability.”

The partnership with Barstool Sports was clearly very strategic and will certainly push the company’s plans forward in many different ways. There is also no time like now to bring new offerings to the market – a number of popular sporting activities are beginning to make comebacks after months of no action due to the coronavirus pandemic. Barstool Sportsbook users will now have access to NBA and NHL playoffs as well as the golf US Open. Soccer, baseball, and the tennis US open markets are also likely to be available on the app.
