Interest in Slot Machines Decline in Pa. As Revenues Drop

The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB) has recently posted the monthly revenue report for the state’s online slot gaming industry and things are not looking so good. In the report, the gaming control board revealed that last month’s gross revenue from the slot machines at the state’s 12 licensed casino operators was $200,359,403 which is a 2.8 percent decrease in revenue from the $206,178,528 generated that was generated by the industry in April 2018.

To make matters, even worse, the revenue drop was despite the fact that the number of slot machines in the state had increased from 25,841 April 2018 to 25,207 last month. Clearly, there is something that is not right.

The state has already begun panicking especially of how vital slot machines are to its economy – the state’s licensed slot machine operators pay a whopping 54 percent of their total slot machine gaming revenue to the state in the form of tax revenue.

For some of the lawmakers, the only way of ensuring that the tax revenue from slot machines increases or, at least, does not decrease is the introduction of even more slot machines. In fact, there is already a new bill that seeks to allow the state’s existing land-based casino operators to operate tradition slot machines at the state’s airports.

Needless, to say, if the state is going to introduce gambling at its airports, then the slot machines are definitely the way to go. This is because the passengers are usually on some rather tight schedules which makes it extremely difficult for them to stop and have at poker games. Slot machines, on, the other hand, are more plausible options for the passengers as they do not require too much of the gamers.

While nothing is promised, there is a huge possibility that, if passed, the bill may be a great way for the state to sustain its slot machine industry which is slowly beginning to show very worrying trends.
