October saw a staggering increase in Pennsylvania’s sports betting handle, reaching an amazing $829.0 million. This mind-boggling sum was a notable 4.0% rise from the prior peak of $797.1 million, boosting the industry to an all-time high.

A substantial 18.8% year-on-year gain in sports betting income, reaching $48.2 million, was propelled by the recent spike in sports betting activity, which notably influenced revenue data. There was a total of $43.1 million from online wagers and $5.1 million from retail wagers.

Other Sectors

Overall gaming income in Pennsylvania hit a remarkable $483.0 million in October, thanks to strong performance across many parts of the gambling sector. Compared to the same time last year, when it was $450.2 million, and to September 2023, when it was $476.3 million, this represented a significant 7.3% gain.

Retail slots stood out among the other income sources, contributing a substantial 40.0% of the overall gambling revenue for the month, totaling $192.5 million. This was a little 3.3% drop from last year, although land-based table games had a 2.0% increase from the prior year, bringing in $81.5 million.

Online slot machine revenue increased 27.2% to $109.8 million, revealing the growth factors in the online gaming industry. Online table games also saw a respectable 19.4% increase, reaching $42.6 million, while poker experienced a small decline of 5.8%, reaching $2.3 million.

Overall, internet gambling saw a jump in income to $154.8 million from slot machines, table games, and poker. Falling shy of September’s record-breaking $159.5 million, this was a considerable 24.3% gain over the previous year’s $124.5 million.

Casino Performance

A record-breaking $258.3 million in bets helped Hollywood Casino at the Meadows and Barstool reassert their market supremacy, resulting in 18.9 million in revenue. While Valley Forge and FanDuel handled $328.4 million, they only managed to bring in $18.2 million in revenue, falling below their September lead. Combined, Rivers Casino Pittsburgh and BetRivers won $2.3 million out of $33.5 million wagered, enough for third place.

Among Pennsylvania’s online gambling businesses, Hollywood Casino at Penn National continued to dominate in October, earning $62.2 million. Rivers Casino Philadelphia and Valley Forge Casino Resort came in second and third with $35.4 million and $29.3 million respectively.
