Pennsylvania’s gaming industry reached a new milestone in May 2026, setting an all-time monthly revenue record of $625.5 million, according to the latest report from the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB).

The record-breaking performance marks a 3.93% increase compared with May 2025 and surpasses the previous high of $623.1 million set in January 2025. The state also generated nearly $270 million in gaming tax revenue, highlighting the continued strength of Pennsylvania’s regulated gaming market.

While sports betting experienced a decline during the month, strong results from online casino gaming, slots and other gaming segments pushed the state to another record performance.

What’s With Sports Betting?

Pennsylvania’s sports wagering market faced a weaker month, with total betting handle falling 9.1% year-over-year to $595.6 million. Taxable sports betting revenue also declined 11.4% to $52.6 million, generating nearly $19 million in state tax revenue.

The slowdown may be from continued volatility across the sports betting sector, but it was not enough to offset broader gains across Pennsylvania’s gaming industry.

Other smaller segments also saw mixed results. Video gaming terminals generated $3.57 million in adjusted revenue, down 3.14% from the previous year, while fantasy contests increased 3.3% to $1.12 million. Pennsylvania’s diversified gaming model generally allowed growth in other areas to drive a record-setting month.

iGaming Leads Again

Online casino gaming once again emerged as the biggest driver behind Pennsylvania’s success, generating $254.8 million in May revenue, a 9.44% increase year-over-year. Online slots accounted for the majority of iGaming revenue, reaching $202.5 million and growing 14.28% compared with May 2025. The continued expansion of digital gaming shows how online casino play has become one of the most important parts of Pennsylvania’s gaming economy.

Retail gaming also remained strong, with slot revenue increasing 3.2% to $232.1 million. Table games added further momentum, generating $81.2 million in revenue, up 1.66% year-over-year. Together, they helped Pennsylvania achieve its highest monthly gaming total ever.

Strengthened Position Among Top Gaming States

The latest figures paint a strong picture of Pennsylvania’s place as one of the largest regulated gaming markets in the United States. The state continues to compete closely with neighboring New Jersey. Although New Jersey slightly exceeded Pennsylvania’s total, Pennsylvania recorded stronger year-over-year growth. Its combination of online casinos, retail casinos, sports wagering, and additional gaming channels continues to create a stable revenue base.

With digital gaming driving expansion and traditional casino operations remaining steady, Pennsylvania’s gaming market enters the rest of 2026 with continued momentum and the potential for even more growth. It would also get more interesting if skill games join the fray.
